How to use a custom shader? (URP)

I'd like to use a custom shader for my MM2 terrain. I found the "Custom Material" output node but it doesn't seem functional: when including it in my graph the terrain never completes generation, and it has an issue that overrides any input I add in the "control layers" section. I'm not sure if it relates to this empty page on the documentation: https://gitlab.com/denispahunov/mapmagic/-/wikis/MatrixGenerators/Custom

How can I pass texture information from my graph to the terrain shader? Is this possible?

I might be able to use a workaround with the DirectTextures output node but this feels hacky and fragile so i'm not sure if there's a different intended way. Thanks
